Q: is it advisable to take Atorvastatin tablets?
I got intense heart attack on 9th early morning for 3 times and got Angioplasty done from my right hand and after discharge from Hospital i was recommended AZTOR 40mg i have gone thru complete lipid profile test in which i have normal range of cholesterol, shall I continue or not please advise.

After reading this information on Atorvastatin which has very weird side effects and I’m confused now, I feel this completely slow poison, its better dying before than taking this medicine and waiting for all these mentioned side effects to occur.

Regards,
Krishna.

A: You are only just recovering from your angioplasty and you ought not to be worrying about everything at this stage, least of all about Atorvastatin!
While I do agree that it must have been prescribed more as a preventive than as a a therapeutic in this instance, as your blood lipid profile has come out normal, you could try and ask the doctor who prescribed it for you, whether it can be deferred at this stage!
Also (and this is really, really necessary) you could eat a ‘healthy, low-fat diet’, which is something that cannot have any side effects for you to worry about, at least!
Besides, there are several herbs that can help keep one’s lipids within limits. A preparation from red rice bran is in use to reduce serum cholesterol. I’m sure you will be happy to know that such alternatives are available!

Q: what is the cost of the following medicine : LIPITOR 80mg Tablets (28 tablets ) ATORVASTATIN CALCIUM (PFIZER).

WHAT A BLESSING! I feel 100 times better now than ever before!

To cut down on cholesterol naturally, I now take Bios Life. A natural fiber based product that is the ONLY one proven to lower cholesterol and backed by the Cleveland Clinic. Lost ten lbs. too!

Q: I’ve been prescribed Atorvastatin and am worried about side effects?
I was previously prescribed Simvastatin, but due to nasty side effects (weakness, fatigue, muscle pain) I cam off them, and declined my doctors advice to take another statin.I have had blood tests recently and my cholesterol level has gone back up to 7.4 so he has told me I sholud take another statin, and has prescribed Atorvastatin. Can anyone give me their personal experiences of Atorvastatin, as I am actually quite worried about what these tablets could do to me.

A: If you have had side effects from one statin, you’ll likely have them from another. Do you exercise? Aerobic execise controls my cholesterol pretty well – I don’t need medication at this point.

Q: Estimate the probability that a patient taking the drug will experience flu symptoms.?
In a clinicla trial of Lipitor (atorvastatin), a common drug used to lower cholesterol, one group of patients was given a treatment of 10-mg atorvastatin tablets. That group consists of 19 patients who experienced flu symptoms and 844 patients who did not (based on data from Pfizer, Inc.). Is it “unusual” for a patient taking the drug to experience flu symptoms?

A: The probability estimate, given 19 w/flu and 844 w/o,

19/863 (total group) = .0220 or 2.2%

844/863 = 97.8%

I would say unusual.
