Q: Has anyone tried a blood pressure medication with only few side effects? My mums on Avapro.?
My mum has also tried tenormin and it really messed her up in the head, but the Avapro gives her really bad bloating in the stomache and cramps. She realizes all medications are going to have some side effects but she has to be on them to keep her alive and just wants to find one thats not too bad on the side effects. Any info anyone could give me would be a great help.

A: You said it yourself.
Every BP medication has potential side effects.
Avapro (ARB-class) and tenormin (betalocker) are perfectly good medicatons. I’m sorry to hear that your mother is one of those few people who do not tolerate them.

She should inform her physician about the side effects. I’m sure her physician will offer her an alternative, perhaps from a different class, based on her health history.

Please note that I did not recommend a specific medication. That would be inappropriate because I do not know your mother’s history and have never examined her. Only her physician can do this.

Q: I’m on avapro for my blood pressure I have weakness leg cramps?
What blood pressure medication should on switch too?

A: Not sure you should switch. Some times the leg cramps are caused by low potassium. In which case eating bananas will help correct this. Are you by chance on a pill to rid the body of excess water also, besides one to lower the high blood pressure? This too will remove potassium from the body.

Q: Does the hypertension medication “Norvasc” have diuretic properties? Or should a diuretic be taken separately?
I had previously been prescribed Avapro and taken a separate diuretic.

A: no, norvasc does not have diuretic properties.

Q: What are the risks of getting pregnant with Moderate Congestive heart Failure?
I am 31 and had a heart condtion that has turned into congestive heart failure. I have no children, and have been put on Coreg (heart medication) and Avapro (to dialate my blood vessels and lower my blood pressure) if we can get my heart stronger my husband wants me to try to have our own child, but i think its to risky. I have an ejection fraction right now of 35% and BNP of 465 currently. Any advise? I think its to much of a risk for my heart…i would love to hear from anyone.

A: Please, please, please talk this over with your cardiologist. The risk depends on the cause of your cardiomyopathy and noone on Yahoo has enough information on your condition to advise you properly. In fact, depending on the type of cardiomyopathy you have, pregnancy could kill you. And you should absolutely not become pregnant on avapro. Talk to your doctor. And good luck.

Q: Should I take this HBP medication, Propranolol?
Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue. However, this is the third med the same doctor has given to me that has cautions/warnings because of my other conditions. I stopped taking the other two after they caused “problems” with the other conditions. This current med is a Beta Blocker which is not supposed to be stopped abruptly. I did tell the doctor that I read that I could only be given an ARB such as Avapro, or Ace Inhibitors. However, she ignored me.
On the info sheet from the pharmacy, it says, ” Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have …uncontrolled heart failure or Raynaud Syndrome.” I have both and my heart failure is treated with an Ace Inhibitor. I’m taking the max dose and my HR is still over 100 BPM and my BP is still high. HBP is the cause of the heart failure. So what should I do?

A: visit an expert and get a second opinion, proponalol is not suitable for you

Q: High Blood pressure meds. Should I switch to generic?
I am currently taking Avapro for High blood pressure due to PKD(Polycystic Kidney Disease) but this medication is expensive ($70) and not covered by my insurance. Should I switch to a cheaper generic? I’ve read that Avapro is good for people with kidney problems. should I switch anyway?

A: Hi yes I would change to the cheaper generic medication as well. I would also go to this website the information there maybe of some help to you as well.

Q: What is going on with my body? Please help.?
I am 31, and i have congestive heart failure (born with heart problems). But within the last year i have noticed that alot of my hair has been falling out and all the sudden my I am finding strands of hair that are white and in 6 months i have lost about 10 lbs….(not trying to diet). The front part of my hair line is really thinning out. Its hard for me to figure this out…. but the summer of 2005 i had pneunioma, summer 2006 i fell into congestive heart failure and my doctor changed my medication from ternornmin, to coreg, avapro, and HCTZ (my heart is getting better on the new meds). I’m hoping this is because of the medication, but again i have not been to the OBG in a couple of years. So I am afraid it could be ovarian cancer or something……has anyone ever had lower back pain, hair thining out an turning white, and weightloss???? Any clue as to what this might be???? i would appreacite any advise here….

A: ACTUALLY…
sounds like your thyroid may be off. I would go get your TSH and thyroid hormone levels checked, because that’s where my money is; I bet you are hyperthyroid, and with a heart problem, that can be a big issue if you don’t get it treated.

You should go see your doc ASAP, because one of the side effects of hyperthyroidism is increased metabolic rate, which could do bad things to your heart.

Good luck, hope that helps (it is just one of many possibilities — someone with your past medical history knows you should be seeing a doctor anyway, right?),

Q: What medications are safe for High Blood pressure during Pregnancy? I just m/c and bp was 184/105 on mds.?
I had High Blood pressure and still continue to wit varied readings of 155/108 to 188/84 to 190/105 and 184/105 and this was on medication. had high protien in my urine. I am 40 and wasn’t planning the pregnancy – I had a hard time getting into the Doctors office and was without medication for a week since the medication I was on Avapro 300 mg is not safe to use while pregnant. What could have been done to have lowered my blood pressure? This is really scary for me since my blood pressure doesn’t seem to be coming down. I would like to have another baby now that I have lost this one, but I won’t try until my blood pressure is under control. My husband of 15 months has no children and now would like one. I have 2 healthy children that are teenagers and lost 2 now with m/c. I believe both are due to high blood pressure but not sure.

A: The current recommendations:
1) Labetalol
2) Procardia XL (or generic)

Q: On these Medications? What do I do?
Ok here is the story……..I am a diabetic on insulin injections, I take panic disorder medication (Paxil) once a day and I also have high blood pressure (which I take meds for that too, which is Avapro). Last week I got blood work taken and my cholesterol is high. Now I will probably have to meds for that too. :( UGH! I am so sad right now because we have been TTC for a year and we did get preg back in June 07 but ended up in a miscarriage at 6 weeks. OMG…….what am I gonna do?
Do you think my risks are high to conceive? Do you think that I should still TTC? Do you think I can still conceive?
Thank you so much for your answers.

A: ur answer is in ur question itself..Since u said u already got pregnant last year(though ended up in m/c, sorry for that), u had a proof that u can get pregnant again. As far as i know, all these medicines r to build up wht ever abnormality u have. As long as u r controlling them with all these pills, u will be fine dear…Just maintain a health regime and also exercise daily…It is said losing atleast 5-10% of our weight also enhances getting conceived…Dont be low…I too take pills for 2 reasons and TTC….We all hope for the best…Good luck huny

Q: Heart Failure, on new meds, now low sex drive? Please help.?
I had a heart condition whcih turned into congestive heart failure I’m only 31. My doctor has me on Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, water pill), Coreg (beta blocker), Avapro (blood pressure med.) and Celebrex (for pain and inflamation). Lately, I don’t feel like I want to be intimate with my husband….I either feel like I have no sexual desire at all, or I’m visually turned on but I’m really dry down there and not really interested in sex at all. Has anyone else experienced this on these medications? Do these meds cause low sex drive? Anyone else on these medications?

A: WOW quite the cocktail of Rx’s there!!!

Yes lack of sex drive in normal!!! Ask ya’ doc’ for another (OMG) RX for that prob’!!! As for the dryness…There are over the counter products like KY Jelly

Really wanna add some spice…Go to a local sex store…Many fun, tasty products…May help more than another RX!!!

Break a leg!!!

A: Hi, I just wanted to let you know you are not alone. At 28 I went into heart Failure Due to having Graves disease. (hyperthyroid) I was also on coreg, lasix, toprel lx. and I was also having problems sexual and emotional.

“How ? Why? Why me? What did I do? My husband? My kids? I was so overwhelmed.

28 and almost dieing can open your eyes. Even thought I am happy to be alive I started suffering from depression. I talked to my doc. and they gave me anti-depressants(of course).

And I talked about it to anyone who would listen Girlfriends, Mom, Sister, Husband, nurses, even strangers on line:)
My advice to you is talk.

Also your body has been threw so much. Just give it time. I am now 32 and my thyroid problems are under control. My sex life is wonderful again, it just took time. My husband is OK, kids, all of it is ok.
It was a true wake up call to what is truly important to me.

There, there everything will be alright.
